There are only three weeks to go before Zoom brings Wales’ International Young People’s Film Festival 2007 to the South Wales Valleys in a huge celebration of film and media. Thursday 22nd March is the first day of this four day Festival and will be packed full of screenings and hands-on workshops as will all of the other days! The festival looks set to be a must for young film fanatics who’ll be pleased to hear tickets go on sale from Monday 5th March.
Activities kick off at the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd, where Valleys Radio will be broadcasting live all day and cinema goers will get the chance to see a special advanced screening of Disney’s ‘Meet the Robinsons’ which is set to be a huge hit in cinemas over Easter. Also showing with this feature will be the World Premiere of ‘It’s gd 2 tlk…’ a short film made by Porth Community School made in association with Zoom, Plastic Buddha Productions and the Film Agency for Wales. Producer Hywel James explains,
"We at Plastic Buddha Productions are proud to have helped the children of Porth Community School to make ‘It’s gd 2 tlk…’ I think it shows the tremendous potential young people in the South Wales Valleys have in filmmaking and I believe Wales’ International Young People’s Film Festival is an excellent vehicle for showcasing this talent to the rest of the world."
Other young filmmaking talent will also be showcased during the Festival in regular screenings of entries for the Zoom Young Filmmaker of the Year Award 2007 sponsored by the Film Agency for Wales. Winners will then be announced at the Zoom Awards Ceremony at the Bridgend Odeon on Sunday 25th March and there’ll also be a chance to see which film was voted Best Festival Film by audiences.
Wales’ International Young People’s Film Festival brochures will be out soon with more information or check out the new website at www.zoomcymru.com. Tickets cost £1 for each activity and can be bought from the Muni Arts Centre on 01443 485934 (all the booking information is available on the website.)
