Zoom preparing to host Wales’ forth International Young People’s Film Festival

Lights, Camera, Action! – With over 70 entries into this year’s Zoom Young Filmmakers Awards the 2010 Zoom festival is set to be the best yet.

Zoom 10, supported once again by the the Film Agency for Wales and this year will feature 11 different awards, ranging from Best Film age 8 – 13 and 14 – 25; to Best Direction; to the Zoom Audience Award, voted for by you (for full details visit www.zoomcymru.com). The award ceremony promises to be as exciting as ever as we wait to find out who has won the coveted awards.

The success of previous festivals has lead to wider programming and a greater selection of screenings, masterclasses and workshops this year. In partnership with a number of local creative industries and national media companies the children’s charity Zoom endeavours to provide a diverse programme of events throughout the festival week for local children and teens.

In association with BAFTA Cymru we will be hosting a preview screening of the newest Tim Burton film "Alice in Wonderland" and tickets are free for the festival screening at the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd.

"BAFTA Cymru are delighted to be collaborating with Zoom International Young People’s Festival for Wales. This event marks the first time that BAFTA Cymru have programmed an event with Zoom and with the help of Disney we are bringing the kids a special pre-release screening of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It is all very exciting and we are very much looking forward to working together and developing an ongoing relationship with Zoom and the South Wales Valleys children who share a passion for film!" Lisa Nesbitt, Director, BAFTA Cymru

The festival is an opportunity to showcase local talent, budding film makers and celebrate the talented young people that live in South Wales. Lisa Davies, Director of Zoom goes on to say "Zoom ’10 is shaping up to be the biggest and best festival yet, its great to see the young people so excited about being involved in a national event that showcases their best work. We are thrilled that the number of entries into the awards is growing year on year. It is vital there are organisations like Zoom dedicated to nurturing the budding new talent out there and we look forward to showcasing as many films as we can at this years festival".

The festival will take place between March 2nd and March 5th. Zoom 10 will take place at 5 venues across South Wales; Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd; Blackwood Miners Institute, Blackwood; Merthyr College, Merthyr Tydfil; The Met, Abertillery; and Blaenavon Working Mans Hall, Blaenavon.
